A summary of Glencore’s preliminary financial results for the year ended December 2020, according to a company report published on Tuesday February 16. In brief Glencore reinstated its dividend to shareholders after a record year in commodities trading. Calls with analysts and media introduced Gary Nagle as the company’s next chief executive officer, to take office after incumbent Ivan Glasenberg retires in June, as was announced last December. Metals trading profits grew by 53% year-on-year in 2020, with prices reaching multi-year highs despite disruptions to the supply chains for zinc, aluminium and copper. Energy trading profits were up by 33% year-on-year in 2020, driven by strong price swings that saw oil briefly trade at a negative value.
