US physical gas prices fell from the stratosphere Wednesday, with averages that soared into an unsustainable $100-$400 per million Btu realm on Tuesday collapsing to more subdued, but still extraordinary, levels. Drops were most precipitous in the Midcontinent and western US, as the mad scramble to fill obligations at any price slowed. Still, deals that were done reflected some ongoing supply scarcity due to the deep freeze descending on much of the country.
