Brussels—The European Commission (EC) has adopted new European Union (EU) rules on the export, import and intra-EU shipment of plastic waste. The rules, which entered into force on 1 Jan. 2021, ban the export of plastic waste from the EU to non-OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries and imports in the EU will also be more strictly controlled.
