The Platts spot 99.7% P1020 US Aluminum Transaction Premium was assessed at 15.35 cents/lb plus LME cash, delivered Midwest, on Feb. 3, up from 15.20 cents on Feb. 2. Bid and offer levels rose as the market continued to digest news of the Biden administration’s reversal of import tariffs on the UAE. Market players said Biden may have shown his hand that he intends to keep Section 232’s import tariffs in place in the near term. The most competitive firm open offer was from a trader at 15.50 cents for up to 500 mt, delivered spot Midwest, net-30 terms. He said the Biden move “changed the tone in the market. It’s not overly bullish, but I think moving my offer up is feasible.”
