LME 3-month zinc price saw large-range fluctuation in April. At the end of March, zinc price stopped the downward trend that lasted weeks in March and started to rebound. And in the first ten days of April, zinc price climbed up slowly in correction. On April 11, the price reached 1,392 US dollars/t, supported by the good fundamentals. The inventory keeps declining for several consecutive weeks and the planned and unplanned deduction of output makes the supply of both concentrates and refined zinc tighter. Skorpion Zinc Mine in Namibia stopped production for 15 days, which leads to a decrease of 120.000 tonnes concentrates output; Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant in Russia said that the production of refined zinc would be cut by 30 percent (100,000t in 2005 from 150,000t in 2004) due to lack of concentrates: if two smelters of Umicore stop production in the latter half of the year as scheduled, the supply of refined zinc will be worse in western market.
