"2006 will be a tough year for China's lead and zinc producers," said Ma Zhongfei, Lead and Zinc Department Manager of China Minmetals Corporation, "The processing trade of lead is abolished, and the export rebate for lead and zinc is lowered to 5 percent from 8 percent from January I 2006. Lead and zinc producers will encounter similar bitter experience next year, as aluminum and copper industries did." According to Ma, tight material supply, high production cost and strict macro control measures have put China's lead and zinc smelters in difficult}'.
