Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Environmental Protection detected excessive cadmium content in Beijiang River Shaoguan Section. After the investigation, it is found that the pollution was caused by Shaoguan Smelter during the maintenance of equipment. To alleviate the pollution, Shaoguan City on December 21 ordered Shaoguan Smelter to shut down the drainage system, and at the same time, 14 other small and medium-scale factories (most of them are indium producers) in. the city were also closed, Antaike quoted www.sohu.com as saying. Due to the pollution, the water supply in some nearby cities was cut off. The environmental protection department has ordered Shaoguan Smelter to deal with the case and strengthened the supervision on other smelters.
