With the year-end approaching, trading on LME market is slow during the Christmas holiday with daily trading volume of lead below 7000 lots and zinc below 13000 lots. Meanwhile, the prices increased slightly with lead prices rising to 706 US dollars/tonne while zinc to 1005 US dollars/tonne. On the other hand, domestic lead and zinc prices dropped to 7100 yuan/tonne and 9600 yuan/tonne from 7200-7400 yuan/tonne and 9800-10,000 yuan/tonne respectively. Before Christmas, all of LME nonferrous metals breached the new high, especially copper and nickel with a growth rate beyond expectation. But lead and zinc prices just increased slightly. Industrial expert attributed the rising prices to the depreciation of US dollars which rate against euro was 1:1.2448 on December 25. The chronic weakness of US dollar and the recovering global economy strengthened funds' optimistic attitude towards future metal market. According to latest statistics, longs are still holding the main positions in copper and aluminum markets, which phenomenon was also mirrored by other metal market. Antaike industrial experts said for certain that the trends of nonferrous metal prices would be on the increase, but there would be a great gap between different metals on account of its respective fundamentals.
