Market review In September and October, all the main base metals prices set new highs driven by further depreciation of US dollar and speculative activities of funds. Zinc price in LME followed the general trend and started to climb up in mid-September. The price hit a new high of the year in October, with 3-month contract price approaching US l,200 dollars /t dollars. Later, all the base metals prices dropped back and zinc price drifted down to US 1,020-1,050 dollars/t. During this period, zinc closely followed other base metals in terms of price fluctuation. But we shall notice that zinc price does not breach the highest level set in 2000 (US 1,203 dollars/t), which is unlike other base metals. This, on the one hand, might indicate that the fundamental of zinc is not as good as that of other base metals and on the other hand might mean that the zinc price still has the potential to rise.
