Peptides and proteins having wide diversity of roles are invaluably essential for life on the Earth. Peptides and proteins occur as varied important enzymes, hormones and receptors in every living being from the unicellulars to the more developed organisms.In recent years, through their relatively economic production and high potential influence on living processes they have become valuable targets from pharmaceutical point of view. Examples of aldesleukin, calcitonin, cyclosporin A, human growth hormone, insulin, oxytocin etc. illustrate the diversity of their applications. Although the varied therapeutic use of peptides and proteins are promising, the creation of an effective and economic pharmaceutical formulation with an active peptide or protein can easily become a big challenge due to their susceptibility to chemical, physical and enzymatic degradation and low bioavailability after oral administration [1,2].
