The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has proposed a Plan to Recognize Multiple Principal Investigators on NIH Grants." This proposal aims to promote interactions between scientists in different disciplines by allowing for the full sharing of federal funds and associated scholarly credit. Epidemiology is a highly multidisciplinary science, and the American College of Epidemiology has long championed the motivation behind the NIH plan. Nonetheless, for reasons noted next, we do not support the mechanism proposed.
