With Honda having reported a 16% drop in Q1 operating profit, Mazda a 79% drop and MMC an 86% drop, Nissan's first-quarter results were the bottom of the pile as its operating profit dropped by 98.5%. This of course follows three successive years of declining operating profit for the company. The result was Nissan's worst quarterly performance since it reported an operating loss in Q4 2001/08 and has prompted the company to undertake its biggest restructuring plan for a decade.
