Considering the increasing volumes of raw data generated within the maritime industry, whether during newbuilding projects, in-service operation, or in the exploration and production of offshore hydrocarbons, questions have arisen about opportunities to exploitand benefit from new data-crunching techniques and algorithms. In short, is maritime ready to embrace the so-called Big Data revolution? From debates and discussions to which The Marine Professional has been privy, the answer to that question is, unreservedly, yes. The tricky part, however, is translating a theoretical concept into a practical reality.
