摘要

Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) has seen increased popularity in the wake of IMO targets for NOx emissions. The system operates by converting NOx from a vessel's exhaust into diatomic nitrogen (N_2) and water (H_2O) with the aid of a chemical reaction typically involving ammonia or urea. The latter, which is a common reductant in marine use, also produces CO_2 as a by-product. A number of well known OEMs-including Waertsilae, MAN Diesel and Volvo Penta among others-have successfully launched SCR systems for the marine market. A relatively new player on the field is US-based Tenneco, which has launched an SCR system aimed at vessels equipped with larger engines. The modular system, which uses liquid urea as a reductant, will enable the high-horsepower engines to meet EPA Tier IV and IMO Tier Ⅲ NOx emission regulations.
