Small-scale LNG supplier Avenir LNG says it will position its newly delivered LNG bunkering and gas supply vessel Avenir Aspiration at its new small-scale LNG (ssLNG) terminal in Sardinia, in an effort to expand LNG supply in the Mediterranean. Avenir Aspiration is Avenir LNG's third 7,500 m~3 dual-purpose, LNG bunkering vessel (LNGBV) and the first of four built by China's Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. Built to DNV class, the 116 m Avenir Aspiration will sail on its maiden voyage to Europe where it will be stationed at Avenir's Higas LNG terminal in Sardinia, which began commercial operations in August. The LNGBV Avenir Accolade delivered the first commercial commissioning cargo - about 7,000 m~3 -to the terminal at the end of May. Avenir Aspiration will not only serve Avenir's own demand, but also provide LNG bunkering services via ship-to-ship transfer to multiple customers throughout the Mediterranean. Serving key ports in the region, the LNGBV will underpin growth of LNG as a fuel, helping to substantially reduce CO_2 and GHG emissions in the Mediterranean. Compared with traditional fossil fuels, using LNG virtually eliminates SOx and particulate matter emissions, 80-90% of NOx and reduces CO_2 by 20% to 25%.
