When the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) issued new mooring equipment guidelines (MEG4), its central purpose was to promote increased safety by establishing new test methods and new rope management recommendations for inspection and maintenance. Based on the feedback from those in attendance at Riviera Maritime Media's webinar, Resolving MEG4 market confusion, held in May, the new guidelines are presenting a number of challenges to shipowners, ship designers and SIRE inspectors. Sponsored by Lankhorst Ropes and Samson Ropes, the webinar panelists were: OCIMF technical adviser, nautical Capt Sanchay Srivastava; Samson Rope Technologies vice president of research and development Kris Volpenhein; and Lankhorst Ropes commercial director maritime division Hans-Pieter Baaij.
