Many people criticize higher education. Common concerns in higher education are numerous and include lack of oversight by accrediting organizations, irresponsible students, crippling student loan debt, disruptive technology, administrative bloat, technology challenged faculty, status quo, dwindling government funding, millennials lacking critical thinking skills, and others. Derek Bok's book, The Struggle to Reform our Colleges, summarizes the research evidence littering the landscape of higher education in the United States. Bok attempts to explain why reform efforts in the last decade have had only marginal successes in achieving higher graduation rates and improving education quality.
