摘要

My Russian is terrible," says Jon Hammond as he stands in his Nottinghamshirefarmhouse, preparing to show 13 infants from Belarus around the family's vegetable and arable business."I can say carrot, parsnip and potato, but that's about it."But he needn't worry - Jon and his wife Sally are old hands when it comes to engaging children in British food production. Getting hands-on and digging in the dirt is more important than any words they can say. From May to September they'll welcome more than 15 groups onto their farm which is situated on the northern fringes of Nottingham. The group they're about to welcome, however, is extra special. The seven and eight-year-olds have come from a place that's still living in the shadow of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. They're intheir final week of a month-long trip to England hosted by families in the Hucknall district of Nottinghamshire where they've been treated to a packed schedule of fun, education and medical care.
