Producers raised December-made flats prices by 6-8%. Meanwhile, quotes of HR flats to traders under consignment agreements decreased by 3%. HR steel will be in a limited supply in the mills’ market in the forecast period, which will be one of the key factors supporting producers’ prices. Specifically, MMK started a series of major repairs at its BOF shop at the end of December. The steel mill will reduce its monthly crude steel output by 200,000 t in January-March, Metal Expert learns. In February, CherMK will stop its HR mill 2000 for an overhaul, then its slitting unit No.2 in March. NLMK continues upgrading its slitting unit too. Producers will cut HR flats supply by 70,000-100,000 tpm in Q1, which will considerably support prices even amid seasonally low end-user demand, especially as traders do not have ample stocks, Metal Expert estimates.
