摘要

What was your earliest ambition? When I was very young I wanted to work with disabled children. As I got older I wanted to be a writer, and at one stage I wanted to be a historical researcher. Who has inspired you in your career? My family. They have all worked, or work, in public services and inspired me to want to help others and make a positive difference. Career advice - what's your top tip? Be willing to learn from your elders and peers (and show respect for and gratitude towards them, especially if they help you in some way), be kind to people even if they irritate you, and don't forget to have a life beyond libraries. Be inspired by the doers, not the philosophers and snake-oil salespeople. Also, no one is ever too important to do shelving or deal with a difficult enquiry! Best professional achievement? Work-wise, building a remote library and information service for social workers across England from scratch. Twice. I went through a period of ill-health in 2016 and wasn't sure if I'd be able to return to work again so I'm very proud of making it back. Professionally, I'm very proud of the Librarians with Lives podcast. Worst professional moment? The 2012 Online Information conference where I was asked to be on a session panel for a topic I had almost *no* idea about after the organisers changed the theme at the last minute. I should have asked to be removed from the panel but I was too scared. After the session ended I just walked out and went home! What ClLlP member networks do you belong to? CILIP in London (I'm on the committee), the Leaders Network, and the Multimedia & Information Technology, and Information Literacy SIGs.
