摘要

"Designing an optimum propulsion system demands an understanding of the forces affecting both the hull and the propulsion system when a vessel is running at high speed," explains Magne Moklebust, managing director of Norway's Servogear."Conventional propulsors (propellers or water jets) work most efficiently in open water conditions. However, when a propulsor is attached to a hull, the hull will influence the water flow entering the propulsor and reduce efficiency accordingly."Since 1981, Servogear's product development has focused on a total propulsion concept, making full utilisation of the forces at work below the hull. The company has developed a unique propeller tunnel, which, in combination with its effect rudder and other developments, results in greater propulsion efficiency below the hull than in open water. Moreover, Servogear's propeller tunnel in itself reduces hull resistance, an effect that has been documented by independent tank tests and full-scale measurements.
