摘要

Israel is currently pursuing two related tactical missile defense programs, David's Sling and Iron Dome which are intended to provide defense against short-range ballistic missiles and artillery rockets. Israel began a Short Range Ballistic Missile Defense demonstration in 2005, awarding a contract to a team of Rafael and Raytheon. The David's Sling program is intended to deal with the threat of short range artillery rockets ranging from the BM-21 through FROG-like rockets such as the Iranian Zelzal and Fadjr 5. A principal aim of the program is to come up with a cost effective solution since even though Patriot or Arrow could deal with some of the upper end threats, it would not be cost-effective. Raytheon/Rafael have developed a new missile for this requirement called Stunner and demonstration trials were expected in 2008-09 with a potential service date aftyer 2013.
