The Sea Killer missile is a medium-range, sea-skimming antiship missile. The Sea Killer missile is the basis for ship-based and airborne weapons systems, known respectively as Mariner and Marte. The initial Mk 1 Nettuno ship-launched version is no longer in service. The Marte Mk 1 is an air-launched system using the Sea Killer Mk 2 missile; it is designed for all-weather attack capability against surface warships. The Marte air-to-surface antiship weapon system is deployed on Italy's SH-3D helicopters and in 1995 was qualified on the MB.339C light attack aircraft. The current version of the system is the Marte Mk 2, a medium-range sea skimmer with gyropilot and radio altimeter guidance that incorporates a new seeker for active radar homing in the terminal stage. The Mariner ship-launched missile system is in operation only with Iran. Total production of this missile was about 960 of which over 400 were exported. There have been no recent sales of these missiles.
