NSM Naval Strike Missile (Nytt Sjomalsmissil: New Antiship Missile, aka Naval Strike Missile) is a recent Norwegian effort to develop a light antiship missile to replace its earlier Penguin antiship missile. Kongsberg received a development contract for the missile in December 1996. The first test firing of the NSM was conducted in late 2000, and the production decision took place in 2002. The production contract was signed on 29 June 2007, valued at NOK 2.746 billion ($450 million) with production to run to 2014. The plans were to deploy the first missiles by 2005 but this objective has slipped to 2010.
