The CBU-97/B Sensor Fuzed Weapon (SFW) is an Air Force cluster bomb with sensor-fuzed submuni-tions to attack large concentrations of armored vehicles. Originally developed under the Wide Area Anti-Armor Munition (WAAM) program, the SFW completed development in 1992; full rate procurement slid to FY96. The procurement objective was for 5,075 SFW at a cost of $1.7 billion but in 2002 this was reduced to 3,355. The Air Force completed its Pre-planned Product Improvement (P3I) in FY00 which will improve its performance against combat vehicles, improve performance against countermeasures, potentially allow use against alternate targets, and improve overall accuracy by mating the existing system with a Wind Corrected Munition Dispenser kit. The version with the WCMD is designated as CBU-105, and the version with the WCMD-ER (Extended Range) is CBU-115. Full rate production on the CBU-105 was incorporated into the SFW line in 2001 and will be retrofitted to the existing inventory. Final procurement funding for the SFW was slated for FY04, but extended beyond FY09, and then in 2007, terminated again in FY07.
