Off-highway cabs are now being designed for comfort as well as efficiency. Switches and indicators play a major role in interiors as OEMs make the look and feel of the cab a critical part of their brand differentiators. Ease of use is one of the central focal points in this branding effort. "There's been a real trend away from utilitarian systems to focus on comfort, which includes aspects like how much the operator is overloaded with all the gauges, knobs, and inputs in modern cabs," said Emad Isaac, Chief Technology Officer of Morey Corp. While the switches that fit inside joysticks and other controllers are minor components in the overall vehicle design, they play a major role in operator satisfaction. "The operators don't see the transmission, but they put their hands on the levers, so they need to provide the perception of high quality," said Jim Hoadley, Sales Vice President at Arens Controls.
