Omnipage, a company supplying medical and logistical support at the scene of sporting events, has described BGAN as constituting a "quantum leap in performance" over its usual communications set-up, after it deployed the Inmarsat solution during a 109km cycle race in South Africa. The Cape Argus Cycle Tour is an annual, one-day event, which attracts approximately 35,000 competitors. For the past five years, Omnipage has been organising a fleet of 100 medical response vehicles, including an emergency helicopter, to come to the assistance of the many cyclists who sustain injuries during the gruelling race.
