It's official - Britain is currently home to the world's fastest diesel engine. UK manufacturer JCB had good cause to celebrate in August last year, when its specially formulated Dieselmax car broke the diesel engine land-speed record in America during a couple of runs in Utah. The vehicle clocked a top speed of 352mph, an enormous improvement on the previous record, which had remained at the 236mph mark ever since it was set in August 1973.
