We have revised our forecast CAGR slightly downwards and now project that the European medical device market will grow by a 2018-2023 CAGR of 5.2% in weighted local currency terms. We have revised downwards our forecasts for Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy Poland and Sweden, and slightly upwards for Hungary. Market drivers will include the ageing population, the expansion of the private health sector, projects to upgrade healthcare facilities, the receipt of EU and other international funding heavy import reliance despite sizeable production, and strategies to support innovation. Sluggish global growth will continue to weigh on Europe's economic performance. Although we expect eurozone growth to stabilise in 2020, our balance of risks remains skewed to the downside. External macro risks to growth include the threat of a no-deal Brexit, a possible re-escalation of Sino-American trade tensions and a more marked slowdown of the Chinese economy. Slow global growth will have increasingly negative knock-on effects on the CEE region in 2020, with the resilience of labour markets gradually weakening. Upward pressure on wages will start to ease, reducing households' purchasing power.
