"Chinese aluminum smelters should unify together in importing alumina in a bid to have a big talk in negotiation with overseas suppliers," said an official with the Ministry of Commerce, at the "2005 Chinese Aluminum Market Conference" that was organized by Antaike and held in Shenzhen city of Guangdong province from May 13 to 14. The official said that Chinese primary aluminum sector had witnessed a boom and slump in recent two years and now the sector was facing severe market environment. The biggest problem was that the imported alumina price continued to move at a relative high level in recent years.
