East Hope (Baotou) Aluminum & Rare Earth Co., Ltd has adjusted its strategic plan, cutting the primary aluminum capacity of its ongoing project to 500,000tpy(part of the project was finished in late last year), down from the previously designed capacity of 1.0 million tpy, an official of the company said. General Manager of East Hope (Baotou), Bian Hongbo, said that the company's previous plan is to build a 1.0 million tpy aluminum smelter and a 2,7000MW captive electric power plant in Baotou City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region within 4 year. Considering the current situation such as tight alumina supply and overcapacity of aluminum in China, the company has made a decision to reduce the planned production scale of its smelter to 500,000tpy. Furthermore, the company intends to take advantage of rich rare earth resources in Baotou and use its aluminum to directly produce aluminum alloys, widening its business scope and enhancing added-value of its products.
