To eliminate risk of ferroalloy market, Maanshan Iron & Steel Company has teamed up five ferroalloy producers led by Xinglong Ferroalloy Works, Longlin, Guangxi Province, with a strategic agreement for ferroalloy supply during 2003-2006. Before this move, Maanshan Steel has also setup similar alliance with eight coal mines for fuel material security. Due to the steel boom, steel producers found competition on material supply of ferroalloy market is dramatic intensive. Maanshan Steel said its ferroalloy demand on Si-Mn, Si-Fe, will significant double from current around 70,000 tonnes to about 130,000 tonnes by 2006, the end of its tenth-five-year-plan.
