Baotou Iron & Steel Company has since March 23 begun overhauling its rod plant, mainly on primarily and secondary mill stands. Baotou Steel said the upgrade was projected RMB29 million, and 45-day timetable. The Inner Mongolia steel producer is expected to come back into commission by May 6, and further improve the company's capability on billet continuous cast. Aiming to optimize its product range and improve market clout, Baotou Steel revealed that it has speed up expanding its cold rolled sheet, which is expected to include one 1.4m tpy pickling & rolling mill, one 700,000 tpy annealing line, one 400,000 tpy galvanizing line, and one 150,000 tpy color coating facility.
