Driven by robust demand on stainless steel product, not only home producers, but also many foreign investors and Taiwan financiers are vigorously engaging capacity enlargement in mainland. China largest stainless producer, Taiyuan Iron & Steel Group (TISCO), has spearheaded in the row of top ten global stainless suppliers, with steel melting capacity 1m tpy and rolling capacity 700,000 tpy, including CR stainless plate 400,000 tpy. In Shanghai, new stainless project, 1780 HR mill, in Shanghai No. 1 Steel works, Baosteel Group, will come into trail run by end of year, which is expected to add its capacity by 800,000 tpy on crude steel and 700,000 tpy on HR product. The whole project will be finalized by June 2004.
