When Feast Portland, a four-day food and drinks festival held at venues throughout the city of Portland, burst upon the scene in 2012, Oregon winemaker Ryan Harms made the tactical decision to not join the rush of wineries and restaurants signing up to take part. After founding Union Wine Co. as a "virtual winery" in 2005 and moving it into its own facility in Tualatin in 2009, Harms' plans and dreams were just starting to come to fruition. Trying to make a big splash in 2012, he determined, might becounterproductive."We were going through some rebranding and we felt we really weren't in a position to do our best to leverage what Feast was going to do," Harms said. "So we decided to wait and get ourselves a little more organized. We really wanted to make the investment worthwhile."
