Months before President Obama's announcement in 2014 that the United States would open relations with Cuba, a group of about 20 sommeliers traveled to Napa Valley and Sonoma County in the first Cuban Sommelier Summit, a chance for them to taste and tour two of the state's most prestigious wine regions.On Dec. 17, 2014, Obama declared his intentions to chart a new course with Cuba, loosening travel and trade restrictions that have been in place since 1961, two years after the overthrow of the Cuban government by Fidel Castro. While travel, banking andcommercial restrictions will be eased in 2015, Congress has not yet approved putting an end to the economic embargo on Cuba.
