摘要

An electrochemical mass transfer technique has been employed to calculate values of the local transfer coefficients within a corrugated plate heat exchanger channel. The Reynolds number range tested was 150 to 11,500 for the following corrugation angles: 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees and 90 degrees. The integral mass transfer results reveal that particularly at low corrugation angles, such as 30 degrees, 'pure' laminar flow does not occur within the tested Reynolds number range. Three-dimensional maps of the local transfer coefficients also provide evidence for the nature of the fluid motion. The research clearly shows that a core of fluid flows along the troughs of the corrugations, over the entire Reynolds number range investigated. At high Reynolds numbers, a peak at the base of the corrugation trough supports the theory that these crossing troughwise streams induce swirling flow. [References: 7]
