摘要

Adapting to environmental concerns has now become an accepted index of industrial advancement in any country. This is especially so when those sectors of industry, oriented heavily towards exports, base their manufacturing programmes primarily on the prevailing international demand for their products. The leather sector in India has at times been weighed down by the need for more attuned environmental compliance over the last few years. The requirements have covered not only the effluent treatment contingencies as they have accumulated in these recent years, but also with fulfilling the norms on chemical usage in leathers, as proposed by some of the importing countries.
