The enormous potential of the China market was reflected by a very strong trade visitor response to the All China Leather Exhibition 2000 (ACLE 2000) and Moda Shanghai 2000, which concluded in Shanghai on 13 October, 2000. More than 6,800 trade visitors, predominantly from Mainland China attended the concurrent shows. The numbers reflected success of an intensified campaign to attract selected domestic buyers and represented an increase in visitor numbers of 38% over the 1999 show. Ms Laura Suirana of the Leather Industry Association of Spain for Foreign Trade (ACEXPIEL), which organised the Spanish Pavilion, reported that Spanish exhibitors were among those who were particularly pleased to see organised buying delegations of major Chinese footwear and garment manufacturers.
