An auction raises more than $15,000 for the study and treatment of cancer. Normally, a pink fleet of tractors would be about as easy to locate as a needle in a haystack. But Kioti Tractor has manufactured just that as part of an effort to fund breast cancer prevention and give back to the communities it serves. "We have always participated in charitable, worthwhile causes on many, many levels," says Douglas Earwood, director of sales for Kioti. The company's first custom-built pink machine, a CS2410 subcompact tractor, netted more than $15,000 for breast cancer research and treatment during a three-day silent auction in October held at the Sunbelt Expo in Georgia. That's far above the $8,500 reserve bid price. Proceeds will be used by the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. (The Daedong USA Kioti Tractor Division is based in Windale, N.C.) Breast cancer has touched the lives of many Kioti employees, Earwood says. While the company has been fortunate to not have a single employee go through breast cancer treatment during its 25 years in North America, many have had friends or spouses diagnosed with the disease.
