Farmers who call into Lloyd O'Hara's Auburn, N.Y., machinery dealership with equipment questions don't have to worry about getting tangled up in a phone tree. When a question comes into the office, the service clerk directs it to the territory manager who oversees work for the caller's geographical area. It's just one of the ways the business is putting people first. "I think the way we do business is really appealing to a lot of customers," says operations manager Jacob Coalson, who helped design and execute the changes as a college intern and is now a full-time employee. O'Hara Machinery, located in the Finger Lakes region, offers farm machinery to a wide range of ag clients. Most of its customers either grow a combination of corn, soybeans and alfalfa, or are dairy farmers. O'Hara sells John Deere tractors, combines and forage harvesters; Mustang skid steer loaders; Kuhn Knight manure spreaders and mixers; Pottinger mower conditioners and tillage equipment; and Westfield grain augers, among other products.
