Sometimes it's easy for technicians to pinpoint problems on machines that come into the shop. Anytime a tech sees duct tape, zip ties or a pair of Vise-Grips clamped to a machine, there's probably a need for repairs in that immediate area. And if a machine reeks of WD-40, it's time to diagnose if parts are froze up, corroded or water-soaked. WD-40 was invented in 1953 by three employees of the fledgling Rocket Chemical Company in San Diego, Calif. It took them 40 tries to formulate a light-viscosity, deep-penetrating lubricant with water-dispersing properties - hence the name WD-40.
