摘要

In days long past "The Clearing House" was responsible for allocating money paid by a passenger at one station for a journey involving more than one company. Each company had to receive its correct share and The Clearing House performed this task with little fuss or publicity. Nationalisation in 1948 eliminated this Herculean task but the more recent privatisation of British Railways has recreated the need for revenue sharing between multiple companies and in some ways the new arrangements are more complicated than those which applied before 1948. The way that the money is divided may well surprise you!
