"No-one would have any idea of the amount of crap that comes across my desk branded as a franchise." The speaker was a prominent specialist in the franchise finance community; the audience a mixture of lawyers, bankers, accountants and a few franchisors who had come together to discuss 'due diligence'. The opinion was strongly expressed but it found not a single dissenting voice. As another participant pointed out, there are many fine, even world-class, franchises that originate in New Zealand, but there are also some which have been poorly-developed and have little to offer. The challenge for any franchise buyer is to differentiate between them.
