Author of Eclipse: Living in the Shadow of China's Economic Dominance (Peterson Institute, 2011) argues that "by 2030, relative U.S. decline will have yielded not a multipolar world but a near-unipolar one dominated by China." By then, China will account for nearly 20% of global GDP (measured half in dollars and half in terms of real purchasing power), compared with just under 15% for the U.S. Chinas per capita GDP will be about $33,000, or about half of U.S. per capita GDP, and it will generate 15% of world trade—twice as much as will the U.S.
