The molecule of the title compound, tetra-mu2-acetato-diaquadi-mu_2-chloro-tetrachlorotetrakis[mu_4-3-hydroxy-2,2-bis-(oxidomethyl)propanoIato]tetramethanoldi-mu_3-methanolatodi-mu_5-oxo-octamanganese(II)tetramanganese(HI), [Mn_4~(III)Mn_8~(II)-(CH3O)2(C2H3O2)4(C5H9O4)4aO2(CH4O)4(H2O)23, displays a centre of symmetry. The structure of the {Mn_4~(III)Mn_8~(II)-O_(18)Cl2}~(10) core is composed of three layers and features two oxo ligands binding in a rare mu_5-mode.
