Have we come full circle? Is it just me, or is history repeating itself? The Eurovision Song Contest is with us again. The first was staged on 24 May 1956 at Lungano in Switzerland. The contest was won by Lys Assia singing a number called Refrain. Grande Bretagne didn't win that one either; but at least we got more than nul points. I am not sure who was singing for us in 1956; it could have been Englebert Humperdink! He seems to have been around forever! There was a lot happening in the middle of 1956. The Summer Olympics had taken place in Stockholm; this competition consisted of just the equestrian event. The rest of the fun (and that's what it was then) had to wait until November when Melbourne in Australia hosted the running and jumping stuff. And I bet their flame didn't go out!
