John Foxwell explains the advantages of the Ford 7000's Load Monitor system when it came to controlling heavy implements. As we saw in my appraisal of the three-point linkage in the December issue, draft control with top-link sensing worked very satisfactorily on the Ford 9N and Ferguson TE-20 tractors. However, its effectiveness was borderline when the larger Category 2 linkage hitches were used on larger tractors with longer and heavier ploughs. The plough, as noted in the previous article, pivoted in an anticlockwise motion around the rear balls in the lower links. The line of draft of the longer ploughs sometimes passed above the lower-link ends, thus rendering the top-link control inoperative.
