Ford has confirmed it is to invest US$760m to build a new plant in Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, continuing the OEM's recent aggressive capacity expansion strategy in the country. The new plant is scheduled to come on stream in 2015, adding 250,000 upa of capacity. This will take the company's total production capacity in China to 1.2 million vehicles annually by 2015, including a recently announced expansion of the Chongqing complex in southwest China, which will involve building a third plant at the site.
