In 2020, Ay Dee Kay LLC, a fabless producer of mixed-signal ASICs, was laboring in relative obscurity serving automotive, consumer and medical markets. 2020 revenue totaled just 23 million US dollars, and the company was losing money. But the future looked promising. Founded in 2007, the company had been working with automotive customers for ten years. It was picking up a lot of new business, almost exclusively in automotive. Ay Dee Kay had booked new orders amounting to a backlog of 2 billion US dollars, which it generously calculated over a ten-year window of future anticipated sales. Ay Dee Kay needed capital funding.
